After the stressful episode for me and my dog, here are some tips to look out for:
- Avoid tall grass, especially during the wet season. These are the places where ticks live.
- Apply tick and flea repellant on dogs’ toes before taking your dog for a walk outside.
- Apply tick medication on the dog as instructed.
- Check for ticks, especially if your dog is rubbing itself against furniture or scratching itself frequently.
I occasionally check for ticks on my dog’s ears and on its body.
There many kinds of tick medication on the market. The one I used was Frontline. Follow the instructions provided by the manufacturer.
Pay attention to:
- The strength of the medication is by the weight of your dog. So, choose the correct ones for the weight of your dog.
- This is a type of medication, so please take note of the expiry date.
- Frequency of application of the medication. It is usually, 1 dose of application per 1 month.
- The medication is for dogs. Rabbits are specifically excluded. Do not apply this on puppies before consulting your local veterinarian.
Like any medication, read the instructions provided in the packaging before administering this on your dog. If in doubt, always check with your veterinarian.
And as always, love your dog!
